I made this doll for my niece as one of her Christmas presents last year. The pattern is from Retro Mama. It was a fun pattern to work with. The instructions are very clear and well written. Included, are explanations on terms and techniques used. There are also hints and tips that are very useful to ensure great results. I don't see how one can go wrong with this pattern, especially when there are a lot of illustrations that further explain the whole construction/sewing process.
The pattern suggests using fine-waled corduroy for the main body parts. I used linen like fabric instead because that was what I had in hand. I used fabric scraps for the rest of the parts. If I could have sewn without any interruptions, I would probably have been able to finish the whole thing in a few hours. Instead, it took me two days.
The pattern calls for triple stitching the body parts to reinforce the seams. Personally, I think this doll (Ruthie) is meant to be played with lightly or used for decoration. Excluding her ears, Ruthie measures 18" tall.
